Facilities
We are now fortunate to have good facilities at Greenisland, but this was by no means always the case.......................
When we started Greenisland in 1995 we literally had 13 children, a bag of balls and a desire to build a good club for the kids to enjoy. We later hired Council facilities at Glenkeen Avenue, Greenisland which consisted of grass pitches and a green hut.
Over the years we have built the club on the pitch and off the pitch, with thanks to all lot of hard work by many many people. Funding a small astro pitch and in 2010 opening our own Clubhouse. In 2019 Grass Pitch 1 was converted into a 3G Astro Pitch with strong support from MEA Borough Council and Sport NI, enabling us to meet the demand to train and play throughout the year.
Currently we have at our disposal and manage a :
A Large Floodlight 3G Astro Pitch, with a 124 seater stand, with disability access
Two Grass Pitches
Changing Rooms
A Smaller Floodlight 3G Training pitch
A modern and well equipped Clubhouse
Strength & Conditioning Suite
Wellness Portacabin
During peak periods, these facilities are heavily oversubscribed, but some off-peak booking is available.
We strongly believe that the setting at Greenisland is ripe for further community sports development and we therefore aim to :
- build an indoor activity area for local groups, adjacent to our Clubhouse
- develop the existing Astro Pitch into an "enclosed ground" to meet the needs of bringing higher level football to Greenisland
if and when funding becomes available !
