Community
Greenisland FC was created by people from our local community and we continue to be an integral part of that community.
Our Community Sports Officer Laurence Gilloway ("Gilsey") was a key figure in founding Greenisland Football Club in 1995 and in managing it's development over the 25 years that followed. In 2018 we decided an ad hoc approach to our community work was insufficient and so we created a Community section within the club to provide more focus.
Gilsey leads our volunteers, working closely with a range of local groups and partners, to plan and deliver programmes, that respond to the needs of various sections of the community :
"The Bears" which offers a footballing outlet for children with special needs.
Schools Outreach program in 3 local schools - Silverstream Primary School, Abbey Community College and Rosstulla School - providing a bespoke programme designed to improve physical and mental health.
Food Poverty Programs in conjunction with local groups and schools.
"The Cuppa Club" which provides weekly social interaction in a relaxed setting in our clubhouse.
Mental Health and Well-being Team.
Activities for Disadvantaged Young People.
Gilsey is also responsible for our Girls Section, Ladies Team and recently formed Chess Club and can be contacted by mobile on 07792 247902.
